
PANCHKULA, April 8: Senior Citizens Council, Panchkula organised it8217;s Annual Day Function at the Day Care Centre in Sector 15, here today. The function was an ideal blend of meaningful and humorous couplets, jokes, ghazals, songs and dances. Member of the Lok Sabha, Aman Kumar Nagra was the chief guest on the occassion.
The Annual report of the Senior Citizens Council was read by the General Secretary, Manohar Lal Sharma. He informed that the membership of the Council, which was numbered at 14 at the time of its inception, had according to latest figures, risen to 656.
Manohar Lal appreciated the involvement of the Superintendent of Police, Panchkula, Alok Mittal in introducing the quot;Help The Aged By The Local Policequot; HAPS scheme. This scheme has been introduced, particularly, for the benefit of those who do not have any able-bodied persons to help them with medical aid, security and safety.
Listing its demands the Council said that the Railway concession should be increased to 50 and the age-limit reduced from 65 to 60 years. It was also requested that residential plots, to the extent of 5, should be specifically reserved by HUDA for the senior citizens.
Chief Guest Aman Kumar Nagra, in his speech, said the Senior citizens play an important role in the development of the Nation because of their rich experiences. He also announced a grant of Rs 51,000 to the Council as building fund.
