The German researcher, who had accused the son and a nephew of two Goa Ministers of raping her minor daughter, is being harassed by the police at the behest of politicians, her lawyer alleged in Panaji on Monday.

“Calangute Police yesterday wrote a letter to the mother asking to give all the information about her within two days,” Legal counsel, Aires Rodrigues, told reporters this morning.

Distributing the copies of letter written by Calangute police, Rodrigues said that they are harassing the researcher at the behest of the state’s high profile politicians.

“The mother has been asked to give details of her daily activities, her business activities, source of income and vehicles purchased in Goa. These things are not relevant to the rape case,” Rodrigues said.

The German researcher, who is on a long-term visa in Goa, had accused State Education Minister Atanasio Monserratte’s 21-year-old son Rohit and Public Works Department Minister Churchill Alemao’s 22-year-old nephew Warren of sexually abusing her 14-year-old daughter.

“This is for the first time it has ever happened in the history of Goa police that they have given such a short notice of two days to reply,” Rodrigues said.

He said despite the victim’s willingness to give her statement and get herself medically examined, the police are harassing her.
