Chennai, October 23 : It will be a three-horse race for the post of the Indian cricket coach. Geoff Marsh, who had pulled out of the race, has rejoined the fray.
The selection of the coach was yet to be made but the processing work already commenced on Monday as the committee met in Chennai and interviewed two of the candidates. One of the three, John Wright, Marsh or Greg Chappell will be picked after the one-off Test against Bangladesh from November 14 to 18.
Board president A C Muthiah said on Monday that the panel comprising himself, S Venkatraghavan, Raj Singh Dungarpur, Hanumant Singh and Jaywant Lele will need some more time to finalise the person.
The main task for a foreign coach is to win the next World Cup, said Muthiah. Before the mediamen could react, Muthiah continued and wanted to know why no one was there to get his quotes when India beat Australia and South Africa in Nairobi.
John Wright and Greg Chappell had arrived in the city on Sunday to put forth their demands. Marsh is expected to come in after a few days for discussion. The day’s meeting will be used to discuss the terms and conditions which will be placed before the working and financial committees, said Muthiah.Board Secretary Jaywant Lele was surprised at the strong media gathering. “It is an in-house meeting and why you are all here,” he wondered.John Wright refused to comment on the selection process. “I am happy to be in Chennai and it is too early for me to make any comments on the selection.”
