
PATIALA, Aug 22: The Sangrur police claim to have busted a gang of extortionists and robbers and recovered weapons from their possession. Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur, Arpit Shukla, told ENS here today that the gang had been busted by Dhuri police under the guidance of DSP Ranbir Singh and SHO Swaran Singh.
The arrested gangsters include Kamal Kumar alias Goldi, Karamjit Singh alias Karam, Jeet Singh alias Jeeti, Amarjit Singh and Dharminder Singh. The police have recovered one country-made pistol (.12 bore), one 3×3 bore pistol along with cartridges, a knife and an iron rod from their possession. A Bajaj Chetak and a moped have also been recovered from their possession.
Shukla said this gang had fired at a worker at a liquor vend at village Bussasinpura, Malerkotla and after injuring him, had taken away the liquor and cash.
They were also responsible for a similar incident in village Dasoundasinghwala, police station Malerkotla. The gang was also involved in the stealing of four calculators and a telephone set from the Oriental Bank at Bagrian under Amargarh police station. The SSP claimed that if the gang had not been busted in time, it might have caused some major havoc in the district. The interrogation of the gangsters is in progress, he said.
Two more persons, Amarjit Singh and Balwinder Singh, indulging in illicit liquor trade, were also arrested along with their Maruti van and 300 bags of country-made liquor, the SSP said.
