SHANGHAI, MAY 21: Indian Open champion Jyoti Randhawa made a gallant charge sinking a superb 67 but could not prevent English rookie Simon Dyson from winning the Volvo China Open by a single stroke and become only the third player to win back-to-back APGA titles here on Sunday. The 28-year-old Randhawa, joint fifth entering the final round at the Shanghai Silport Golf Club here, turned the heat on his rival with a front nine 32 and just failed to catch up with the overnight leader as he finished second with a 12-under-par 276.Delhi pro Randhawa, who made a good start as at the Macau Open last week but slid down the leaderboard on Saturday, roared back when it mattered and finished with a final four-day card of 69, 68, 72, 67 to pocket $44,520 (about Rs 19.14 lakhs). The 22-year-old Dyson, who won at Macau for his maiden pro title, sunk a nerve-jangling eight footer to par the last hole to lift the title and pocket $72,000.American Ahmad Bateman was third two strokes behind Randhawa with an aggregate of 280.Dyson provided a dramatic finish as he saved par at the par-5 18th hole despite losing a stroke after his wayward drive landed in the water hazard.Among the other Indians, Amandeep Johl (73+72+69+73) was joint 26th with four others at 287 while Arjun Atwal ended 57th with Chung Chun-Hsing of Taiwan after a woeful 76 saw him end up at five-over 293.The Indian was unlucky to miss birdies on a couple of occasions which could have helped him take the title but was pleased with his overall performance.Dyson did not had everything going in his favour but he managed to pull through despite a strong challenge from Randhawa. The Yorkshireman finished with one-under 71 for a total of 13-under-par 275 after he courageously rolled in the last shot of the tournament to pip Randhawa for the title.Taking a three shot lead into the final day, Dyson, who played in the victorious Walker Cup team for Great Britain and Ireland last year before joining the professional ranks, got into full flight with a birdie at the first hole.He bogeyed the sixth landing in the water hazard but bounced back superbly with three birdies on the trot for a outward 33. But it soon became a roller-coaster ride with three bogeys and a birdie in his next six holes.Randhawa, playing three flights ahead, piled on the pressure as he finished with a 67, while Dyson was still at the 17th.The Englishman missed the 17th par three green but made a crucial up-and-down to hand on to his slendar lead. More drama came when he blocked his tee shot into the water at the last but recovered brilliantly with his best shot of the tournament by firing a five wood from 246 yards out, which sealed a historic triumph.
