While sharing of Cauvery waters has always been a sensitive issue for Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, the Hogenakkal Integrated Drinking Water Project dispute—centering on the DMK Government’s plan to take river water to Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts—has broken out just when Karnataka is going for polls, the editorial states. While former chief minister S.M. Krishna called on the prime minister to ask him to exert influence on the DMK to halt the project till elections, Union Shipping Minister T.R. Baalu asked the PM to advise Karnataka to give up its opposition.
