AHMEDABAD, FEBRUARY 17: The Press Council of India (PCI) chairman Justice P B Sawant stressed the need of a fresh look to print media and brushed off that there is any threat to print media following the invasion of the electronic media.Inaugurating a seminar on `Future of Print Media' organised by Information Department and Gujarat Daily Newspapears Association here, Justice Sawant said following the influence of electronic media, the advertisements to print media had marginally affected but its popularity would not be eroded as 70 per cent of the population in the country does not even have the capacity to buy a television. Similarly the internet popularity would also not affect the print media because the internet facilities could be afford only by the affluent section of the society.Talking about the present mechanism for enforcing the code of professional ethics, Justice Sawant said stringent measures should be chalked to effect these ethics so as to make sure that no inflamatory material is shown on TV which might fuel communal feelings. He was also against the fad of poll surveys, which would have a definite influence on the electoral process and harmful in a democracy, he opined.
