MUMBAI, Aug 17: Four colleges - HR Commerce, RA Podar, Vivekanand Tech and DG Ruparel - from Group A attained the qualifying mark of 17.5 points posting impressive victories in the seventh round today to make the play-off grade of the University of Mumbai's Inter-Collegiate Chess Tournament.The points tally aggregated by the top four after winning their respective encounters at the University Pavilion today were: HR Commerce 21 (out of a possible 28), RA Podar 19, Vivekanand Tech 17.5 and D G Ruparel 17.5.The Group B qualifers would be known tomorrow after the conclusion of their seventh round.HR Commerce crushed Acharya Marathe 4-0. Acharya, who were leading right from the second-round, were unfortunate to miss the selection for play-off by one point. While Ruparel were lucky to enter in with 17.5 points. Acharya Marathe remained on 16.5 points. Ruparel defeated N R Swamy 4-0, Podar downed Khalsa 3-1 and Vivekanand Tech beat Jai Hind 2.5-1.5.In Group B after six rounds, MCC, who beat AnnasahebVartak by a margin of 3.5-0.5, increased their lead to 4.5 points. They lead with 22 points. Chandibai (Ulhasnagar), who crushed Model 4.0, are on the second spot with 17.5 points. Chetana and St Gonsalo are joint third with 16.5 points each.In Group A junior National player Rashmin Pulekar (ELO 2105) won all his seven rounds to claim the gold medal for the top board. On the 3rd board Chandrakant Reddy of Ruparel too has won all his seven games. Reddy, however, will have to battle against Ashish Thattee (group B) for the 3rd board medal.In Group B on the top boards MCC's Ravishankar (ELO 2090) and Chetana's Yashraj Aidasani (ELO 2170) have scored 5.5 out of six.
