PANCHKULA, Oct 14: Four persons were taken ill after they consumed laddoos in Sector 9 yesterday evening.
According to sources, some persons distributed laddoos to jhuggi-dwellers residing in a plot in Sector 9. However, after consuming the laddoos, they started complaining of nausea and also vomiting and had to be hospitalised in General Hospital in Sector 6 here. The victims include Ram Nivas (9), Champat Lal (45), Ram Saini (40) and Vishwa Devi (40). Ram Nivas was discharged today, while the other four are still in the hospital.
Chief Medical Officer Dr H.C. Nagpal suspects that some pesticide had been added in the laddoos.
When the patients were asked about the whereabouts of the persons who distributed the laddoos, they said that though they did not know them, they could recognise them.
It is suspected that some people wanted to remove the jhuggi-dwellers from the plot and may have indulged in the act. The police have registered a complaint and further investigations are on.
Steps urged to ensure regular power supply
The Citizens’ Welfare Association has urged the Haryana government and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam to take immediate steps to ensure regular power supply in the township.
According to Association president S.K. Nayar, the UHBVN supplies power to Panchkula via the Kunihar (HP) line rather than the Ropar/Pinjore line with the result that supply to the township is rarely interrupted. The agreement between Haryana and Himachal Pradesh expires on October 31; thereafter supply via Kunihar will cease.
According to Nayar, the under-frequency relay provided on the Ropar/Pinjore line results in immediate tripping whenever the frequency falls below 47.6 Hz (normal frequency is 50 Hz).
For the past three days or so, Panchkula is being supplied power via the Ropar/Pinjore line with the result the supply is frequently disrupted).
