Several reputed personalities including a former Chief Justice of India have agreed to head the five working groups announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during the second Srinagar roundtable on May 25.

Former chief justice of India Justice (retd) AM Ahmadi has accepted to be the chairman of the working group that will deliberate on matters relating to the special status of Jammu and Kashmir within the Indian union. The working group will also discuss the methods to strengthen democracy, secularism and the rule of law in Jammu and Kashmir.

The chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, Mohammad Hamid Ansari, has also given his consent to head the working group on rehabilitation of orphans and widows affected by the 16-year turmoil in the Valley. The group will deliberate on measures to improve the condition of people affected by the turmoil. It will also look into various schemes to rehabilitate orphans and widows.

Retired Foreign Services officer M. K. Rasgotra will be the chairman of the working group that will recommend measures to simplify procedures to facilitate travel across the Line of Control (LoC).

The working group on J-K’s economy will be headed by former governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Dr C Rangarajan. The working group will deliberate

on balanced economic development, employment generation, balanced regional and sub-regional development in the state.
