US auto major Ford Motor Co on Tuesday showed-off the mid-sized premium Fiesta and promised fresh investments in India, apart from more research and development and outsourcing from here.

‘‘India is critical for the Ford Motor Company,’’ said company chairman and CEO Bill Ford at the launch.

The Fiesta ships with a 1.6 litre petrol engine or a 1.4 litre CRD engine, and targets one of the highest-growth segments in the luxury car market in India.

Ford said the company would consider India among ‘‘top’’ destinations in growing markets worldwide for investments, though he did not say how much investment has been planned out already.

‘‘There is a great potential in outsourcing components from India and we want to increase this business from India,’’ Ford said. He said cost and labour rationalisation would be key objectives of a decision on outsourcing.
