MUMBAI, January 13: Educationists at a gathering today stressed the need for a larger focus on physics and mathematics in the present education system.
The function, an Indo-US collaboration project for Faculty Development programme, was organised by the Bombay Teachers’ Training College.
Pointing out that the 21st century would be an age of information, the chairman of the International Education Hyderabad (Sind) National Collegiate Board, Dr Ram Tarneja said that a greater concentration on physics and mathematics by educational institutes was required to help students meet the challenge. “English must continue to be a link language for us to be a part of global change,” he added.
The vice-chancellor of University of Mumbai, Dr Snehalata Deshmukh, however, exhorted for Sanskrit as the link language. With it’s ability to express much in the shortest possible words, Sanskrit could prove very beneficial in computer usage.
Deshmukh stated that keeping in line with her call for a counselling centre at every college, special focus will be laid on ensuring effective functioning of such counselling centres.
