SOLAN, Jan 1: Five persons were killed, four on the spot when a private oil tanker (No-PB-11 J-4657) in which they were travelling plunged into Kuni rivulet near Biran village on the Arki-Kunihar road under Arki sub division in this district last evening.
According to the police, four persons died on the spot while another succumbed to injuries on way to primary health centre Kunihar. The ill-fated oil tanker was on its way from Ambala to Kullu.
The deceased were identified as Desh Raj, resident of Jabot village of Jhaoo area of Hamirpur district, Raju, cleaner of the truck, Hari Chand and Sanju – all residents of Jhaoo area of Hamirpur district. The fifth person could not be identified. The cause of the accident could not be ascertained immediately.Sub Divisional Magistrate P.D. Chaudhary, Arki, has sanctioned an ex gratia grant of Rs. 5000 each to the next kin of the deceased.
Dharamsala: The district administration will organise camps with the help of anganwadi workers and specialist doctors for nearly 3,591 handicapped and mentally retarded children in the district, DC B.K. Aggarwal disclosed has stated in a press release that the handicapped would be provided with artificial limbs. He also said the Red Cross, Dharamsala, would orgainse a camp on the same line at the Forest Rest House, Fatehpur, on January 10, the release added.
