Roger Federer saved three match points in a second-set tiebreaker as he rallied to a 4-6, 7-6 8, 6-4 victory over Andy Roddick during the Tennis Masters Cup here on Tuesday.

The world no. 1 extended his winning stretch in the round-robin matches at the season-ending championship to 14 and his streak against Roddick to eight. Roddick has not beaten the Swiss star since the semifinals at Montreal in 2003.

Today though Roddick had his chances. He won the first set after breaking in the third game on Federer8217;s double-fault. Roddick saved three set points in the 10th game of the second set and then had three match points at 6-4 in the tiebreaker before Federer won the game.

Federer then lost the next two to give Roddick another match point, having to fire a service winner to save the match. On set point, Roddick leaped high for an overhead and smashed it long.

Having gone so close in the second, a lapse early in the third set cost Roddick the match and Federer got the break serve in the third game and closed out with three aces in the last game, including one down the middle on his second match point.

Paes-Damm loses again

Leander Paes and Martin Damm8217;s dream of clinching the ATP Masters Cup seemed to go up in smoke as they suffered their second straight loss. The Indo-Czech pair went down 2-6, 7-6 4, 6-75 to America8217;s Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike, in their second Red Group match. The US Open champions had earlier lost 6-7 6, 6-4, 3-6 to Australian Paul Hanley and Zimbabwe8217;s Kevin Ullyett on Sunday.
