PANAJI, JUNE 26: Press reporters covering Assembly proceedings had to perform the role of visitors in the press gallery on the first day of the monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly today on account of faulty sound system in the press gallery.

The state government had spent over Rs 34 crore on the sound system in the assembly which was inaugurated just three months ago. But journalists, who had entered the press gallery for the second time to cover the proceedings, found that no reporting was possible due to poor audibility.

Complaints to the speaker regarding the same proved to be of no avail. However, the Speaker only informed the scribes that the payments of the concerned contractor would be withheld if the fault was not set right soon and requested them to bear with the situation.

On the way back to the press-room, scribes met leader of the opposition Ravi Naik, who informed them that Congress MLAs were agitating on the issue of effecting the arrest of all anti-social elements, including Nandan Kudchadkar, a close-friend of the chief minister, and known to be involved in the Kavlem hut demolition case.

This was also confirmed by the Speaker, who said the opposition was demanding and agitating that the car of another accused Roy Fernandes, be attached by the police. When asked why he had left the House abruptly, the Speaker informed that he had adjourned the house for half-an-hour.
