Ten days after Javed Sheikh was gunned down, along with three other suspected LeT militants on the outskirts of the city, his body was buried at the Musa Suhag cemetery in Shahibaug today. While his father-in-law claimed the body, wife Sajida was not present when the last rites were performed.Crime Branch sources said Javed’s father-in-law Abdul Hamid Fatubhai Inamdar and nephew Iqbal reached the Civil Hospital around 3.30 pm. They refused to talk to mediapersons, who have been expecting them since Wednesday.‘‘They (Hamid and Iqbal) had put up at a hotel, where they refreshed themselves and then approached us,’’ said an officer of the Crime Branch.Hamid and Iqbal were in the morgue for nearly two hours. Apart from identifying Javed’s body, they were made to visit the cold storage, where the bodies of the suspected LeT militants killed in the June 15 encounter, have been kept. They were also interrogated by ACP Parikshita Gurjar for nearly half-an-hour.Inspector J.G. Parmar said: ‘‘Now that they are here, the two will be thoroughly cross-examined, we will try to find out as much as we can. They will be allowed to leave the city only after our investigation is over.’’At the burial ground, Hamid said his daughter Sajida was unwell and ‘‘not in a position to travel’’. Javed’s father also wanted to attend the funeral but ‘‘fell ill at the last moment’’, he added.Asked why Javed was buried away from his hometown, Hamid said the body had started decomposing and it was not possible to carry it to Pune, which involved an overnight journey.Javed was buried in the same cemetery where the two terrorists killed in the Akshardham attack have been put to rest.
