PATIALA, April 26: A total of 6,29,784 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured by various procurement agencies in this district till today.Disclosing this District Food Supply Controller M. S. Sahota said that the Food Supplies Department had made over 80 per cent of payments against the bill received by the department. He said that the problem of lifting had also been eased because of a decline in the wheat arriving in the mandis. He added that the procurement season was almost over in the district.Punjab Ahrtiya Association president Harjeet Singh Sherru said that the Food Supplies Department had transferred its work to PUNSUP on April 19 and the wheat was last procured on April 21. He further said that the department had made the payments only up to April 10.Sherru alleged that the government has failed to provide basic facilities like drinking water and electricity at the purchase centres in the district.
