Six people were burnt to death in the Ashogapur village of Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday morning. While three persons have been arrested in this connection, preliminary investigations reveal that the incident took place over an affair. Miscreants supposedly torched the thatched roof of the house after killing the victims, the police said. DIG, Lucknow range, Chandra Prakash, said, “We are waiting for the autopsy report to reach any conclusion”.

The hut owner, Chhano Bhurgi (40), a labourer, was having a relationship with one Rekha (33) of the same village. Rekha was present in the hut along with Chhano’s family when the hut was set on fire by some miscreants. Rekha’s husband Om Prakash Maurya was murdered around two years ago. “After the murder of Om Prakash, Rekha developed a relationship with Chhano. Rekha’s family members, including her son, were against it and often had fights over the issue. Chhano had bought a hut for Rekha in another village,” said a senior police officer. Chhano’s brother has registered an FIR against Rekha’s brother-in-law and her son at the Kheri police station.
