SANGRUR, Aug 20: Secretary General of the Shiromani Akali Dal and Member Parliament Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa promised to extend financial help for the developmental of the town as the great martyr Shaheed Udham Singh belonged to this place.

Dhindsa was addressing a public meeting at Sunam about 15 km from here on Tuesday afternoon.

For providing a face-lift to the town, Dhindsa said that the Punjab government would spend Rs 3 crore for laying down a sewerage line and Rs 2.50 crore for supplying water through pipes. He said 30 km long sewerage line would be laid down and four water tube-wells and two huge capacity reservoir constructed. Dhindsa said that for the purpose Rs 50 lakh grant has already been made in this regard and the remaining amount would be released as and when required. He assured to complete these works before the next birth anniversary of the martyr which will due in the month of August next year.

Dhindsa also laid down the foundation stone of the sewerage scheme in Indra Basti, a slum area.

Lauding the role of Shaheed Udham Singh to free India free from the British empire, Dhindsa said the great martyr had taught every Indian to raise his head with pride. The great martyr, the MP said, had avenged the Jallianwala massacre by killing the General responsible for the tragedy.

Others, who spoke on the occasion include Deputy Commissioner Anirudh Tiwari, Parkash Chand Garg, president Punjab Chetna Manch and senior Akali leader Rajinder Singh Kanjhla.

Meeting summoned: An emergency meeting of the executive committee of The Punjab State Ministerial Services Union of the Food and Supplies Department has been summoned at the office of the District Food and Supplies Controller, Ludhiana, on August 22.
