The prestigious Jagan Phadnis Smruti Shodh Patrakarita award for the year 2003 has been presented to The Indian Express staffer Shailesh Gaikwad for his reporting on medical college entrance procedure this year.

The award, for investigative journalism, has been constituted by Jagan Phadnis Smruti Trust (JPST) in Kolhapur. In a ceremony at Shahu Smarak Bhavan on August 17, Gaikwad received the award from senior journalist Nilu Damle.

The JPST constituted the award last year in memory of late journalist Jagan Phadnis. After receiving the award, Gaikwad said that the award constituted in the name of one of the most eminent journalists would inspire him in his career. ‘‘This award came from the combined efforts of the Express group,’’ he said.
