NEW DELHI, JUNE 28: India today expelled a Pakistan High Commission employee, Dil Fayyaz, who Islamabad had claimed was missing since Sunday evening, for spying.

Fayyaz, who was detained by the police in Ghaziabad for violating the Official Secrets Act, has been asked to be withdrawn from India by July 5.According to official sources in Lucknow, the police have arrested a person from the BSF at the Hindon Air Force base near Ghaziabad in connection with the case.

Pakistan Deputy High Commissioner Akbar Zeb was summoned to the External Affairs Ministry this evening and told Fayyaz 8220;was indulging in activities incompatible with his official status8221; 8212; in diplomatic parlance, spying. Fayyaz was brought by the Uttar Pradesh Police to the Chanakyapuri police station and handed over to High Commission officials.

Earlier, the High Commission officials had said Fayyaz had gone to the railway station to get tickets reserved for his family, who wanted to go to Pakistan, and hadn8217;t returned.

In a pressstatement, the High Commission had said the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs had sent a demarche to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad expressing concern over Fayyaz8217;s mysterious8217; disappearance.India8217;s Deputy Commissioner in Islamabad, they added, had been summoned to the Foreign Office and was told 8220;in case of kidnapping, the Indian Government must make every effort to trace his whereabouts and secure his immediate release.8221;
