MUMBAI, August 31: The annual exhibition of Ganesh idols was inaugurated by the state Chief Secretary, Arun Bongirwar, at Cuffe Parade's Trimourti Emporium on Tuesday.Trimourti Emporium, an enterprise of the Maharashtra Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Limited (MSSIDC), has been organising the event for the 15th year in a row now. ``The exhibition was initially started to cater to the people living in Cuffe Parade, who had little or no access to local Ganesh idol maufacturing units or artisans.Artisans from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Karnataka and Gujarat are regulars at the exhibition, displaying idols made of clay, stone, sandal wood, sandstone, fibre glass, crystal, granite, semi-precious stones and metal.Over 6,500 idols are on sale and are priced anywhere Rs five and Rs 1,31,000. The Ganesh icon is also available in the form of key chains, tissue holders, pen stands, paper weights, wall hangings, and in a set of six idols, playing differentmusical instruments.The exhibition-cum-sale will be open every day until September 12, from 11 am to 1.45 pm and 2.30 pm to 6.00 pm, except on Sunday, September 5.
