MUMBAI, MAY 8: Essar Steel has increased its HR coil capacity from the existing 2 million tonnes to 2.2 million tonnes. The Company has plans to improve this further as a major de-bottlenecking exercise which is currently underway. This was done by re-engineering the processes which has resulted in HBI capacity upgrade by 10% to 1.94 million tonnes per annum, melt shop from 2 million tonnes to 2.2 million tonnes and hot strip mill from 2 million tonnes to 2.2 million tonnes.
The Company is already producing steel at the higher capacity. In March this year the Company has achieved a capacity utilisation of 110% of the name plate capacity which on an annualised basis works out to capacity of 2.2 million tonnes.
