June 13: Additional chief metropolitan magistrate S N Chimade today allowed the economic offences wing (EOW) of city police to interrogate ailing Abhyudaya Co-operative Bank chairman Sitaram Ghandat after obtaining permission from doctors.Ghandat, a sitting MLA from Gangakhed constituency in Parbhani district and prime accused in the Rs 4.68 crore bank scam, was admitted to St George hospital on June 10 after he complained of urinary problem and stomach ache.Earlier, Ghandat was remanded to police custody till June 14 by the metropolitan court and thereafter to judicial custody till June 24.Ghandat had surrendered to EOW on May 30 after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Bombay high court.According to the prosecution's case, the accused had purchased some properties in the city but in the agreements indicated larger areas of premises bought, thereby misusing public funds to the tune of Rs five crore.
