ADELAIDE, JAN 10: Second seed Thomas Enqvist of Sweden beat defending champion Lleyton Hewitt of Australia to win the Adelaide men8217;s hardcourt tennis tournament today.

Enqvist, the world No 22, overcame a slow start to take the title 4-6 6-1 6-2.

The Swede was thrilled with the win, after having been forced to take three months off last year with a foot injury.

Hewitt, 17, became the lowest-ranked singles victor in ATP history when he won in Adelaide last year with a ranking of 550.

The loss robbed Hewitt of the chance to become the second youngest player ever to defend a title.
