GEORGETOWN, February 27: Angus Fraser and Dean Headley made early strikes as England restricted West Indies to 67 for two at lunch on the opening day of fourth Test today.

But for lapses in the field England could have been even better placed after West Indies captain Brian Lara won the toss.

Fraser, who has already taken 20 wickets in the series, made the initial breakthrough when he had Stuart Williams caught low in the slips by Graham Thorpe for 13.

Opening partner Sherwin Campbell spent 71 minutes scoring 10 before he failed to get his bat out of the way of rising ball from Headley and was comfortable caught by wicketkeeper Jack Russell.

Headley, who bowled nine overs in succession, was twice warned for running on the pitch. One more warning would leave him unable to bowl again in the innings.

Mike Atherton, playing his 50th Test as England’s captain, will feel they should have made major inroads into the West Indies batting.

Off-spinner Robert Croft, brought into the side to form a spinpartnership with Phil Tufnell, missed a possible runout when he fumbled the ball as the openers went for a short single in the first over.

In sixth over Williams hooked Headley high to deep fine leg where Angus Fraser failed to get to the ball which went for six. Lara survived three lbw shouts in making an unbeaten 17 while Chanderpaul was 11 not out.
