Lashing out at Rajasthan government for the police firing on agitating Gujjars, the CPM asked the Vasundhara Raje administration to end ‘repression’ against the protesters and talk to them for an amicable settlement.
The Left party squarely blamed the BJP government for the current situation, saying it was ‘solely responsible for the present killings’ in the state.
“The Politburo of the CPM strongly condemns the brutal police firings over the last two days in which 35 people were killed and over 100 injured in Rajasthan,” the CPM said in a statement.
The BJP government, “which has earned notoriety in police firings, is solely responsible for the present killings,” the CPM said.
“The BJP government has not learnt any lesson from last year’s incidents and completely bungled in tackling the agitation,” it said.
The party asked the state government to ‘immediately stop police repression’ and talk to the leaders of the agitation for arriving at an amicable settlement.
The Gujjar-police clashes have so far left 35 dead and injured more than 100. The Army has also been deployed in Bharatpur, Dausa, Karauli and Sawaimadhopu districts of the state which are the nerve centres of the Gujjar stir who are demanding Scheduled Tribe status.
