The Election Commission is likely to decide next week on the registration of ‘Praja Rajyam’, the political party floated by Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi.

The Commission will hear on October 16 the application filed by Chiranjeevi seeking to register his political party, EC sources said.

The fledgling party crossed its initial hurdle earlier following withdrawal of a petition filed by a Cuddapah advocate seeking the same name for his political outfit.

A day before the mega star’s launching of the party, the advocate had announced that he had applied to the Commission for registration of a party by the same name.

But later the advocate Chenna Krishnaiah informed the poll panel that he had decided to withdraw his application. In true cinematic style, Chiranjeevi launched his party before a mammoth crowd of his fans and supporters at Tirupati on August 26.

The entry of Chiranjeevi, who has acted in 148 films, into politics has generated a lot of interest as he is expected to alter the political equations ahead of the next year’s assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.
