CHENNAI, JULY 26: Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurthy has said that Assembly elections for Tamil Nadu will be conducted March next year and the polls would be conducted in a single day with the use of Electronic Voting Machines in all the constituencies.Inaugurating the on-the-spot issue of voter identity cards in the Royapuram constituency on Tuesday, he said the election date will be decided after taking into account examinations in educational institutions. But a final decision has not been taken on conducting the poll in a single day. Voter ID cards have been distributed to only 50 per cent of the voters in the state and in Chennai the per cent is only 42. Efforts are being made to provide identity cards to at least 85 per cent of the voters. Political parties and the people, specially the educated, should co-operate.
