ROOPNAGAR, Oct 6: The Congress candidate for the Ropar (reserve) Lok Sabha seat, Shamsher Singh Dullo, today defeated two-time SAD MP Satwinder Kaur Dhaliwal by a margin of 73,152 votes.

According to Deputy Commissioner-cum-returning officer Kulbir Singh Sidhu, Dullo had earlier been leading in eight of the nine Assembly segments, with Dhaliwal ahead of Dullo in Chamkaur Sahib by 4,195 votes.

In Khanna, the home Assembly segment of Dullo, Congress had been leading by a margin of 15,779 votes, while in Nabha, Dullo had a lead of 14,500 votes. In Amloh, Dullo was leading by 7534 votes till 7.30 p.m. while in Sirhind, he was ahead of Dhaliwal by 7,202 votes around the same time. In Dhuri, Dhaliwal was trailing by 8,437 votes.

In Morinda, Dullo was ahead of Dhaliwal by 4,500 votes at 7.30 pm. In Kharar, Dullo was ahead of Dhaliwal by 1,465 votes. In Samrala, Dullo was leading by a margin of 4,837 votes.

Meanwhile, All India Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Balbir Kaur remained in the third position even in the Assembly segment considered to be Tohra’s stronghold.
