SP leader Amar Singh might have called for a truce with actor Shah Rukh Khan on the ‘‘humiliation’’ of UP’s brand ambassador Amitabh Bachchan in Dubai, but the Sahara Group and a section of Thakur leaders do not seem to have taken kindly to the incident. While some Thakur leaders, including a legislator from the state, have called for a boycott of all Shah Rukh Khan films and his CDs and pictures in the state, the Sahara Group has decided to sever all ties with the Morani brothers, event managers of the Dubai awards show.At the Dubai function, Amar Singh objected when Bachchan was seated in the eleventh row. An argument between Singh and the event managers followed and Khan reportedly intervened, taking the Morani brothers’ side.Amar Singh had later said that Shah Rukh had called him up and clarified that the remarks he made were in a lighter vein and the matter was closed.‘‘Our group will not let the Morani brothers hold any event for us and this includes their removal from the forthcoming ‘Bharat Parv Yatra’ project. They had been associated with us for the last several years but now we will have no ties with them in the future. Anybody who gives such a treatment to an icon like Amitabh Bachchan and a man of the stature of Amar Singh does not deserve any respect and support from the Sahara Group,’’ Abhijit Sarkar, chief of the group’s corporate communication wing, told The Indian Express. The yatra project is scheduled to be held later this year with an estimated expenditure of Rs 100 crore and the event was to be handled by the Morani brothers.Meanwhile, a group of Thakur leaders in the state have given a call for a boycott of all films starring Khan in Uttar Pradesh ‘‘till he tenders a public apology to Amar Singh who has a following of crores in the state’’.‘‘We are not going to forgive Khan for his indecent behaviour during the awards function in Dubai last Thursday. He should tender a public apology to Amar Singh for what he did at the function. It was an insult to the entire Thakur community and Khan will have to pay for that,’’ said Akhilesh Singh, Independent legislator from Rae Bareli who heads the Akhil Bhartiya Congress Dal (ABCD).
