VADODARA, Oct 19: Diwali was celebrated with religious fervour in the city with bursting of fire crackers in all parts of the city. Almost all the main markets in Mandvi, Nyay Mandir, Dandia Bazaar and Raopura were flooded with people making last-minute purchases, as the festive fever caught on in the evening.
Most of the temples, and commercial and residential complexes were decorated as part of the festive season.
People, dressed in their best, could be seen buying clothes, sweets, utensils and other metals throughout the day. While sweets shops made brisk business, crowds could also be seen at greeting cards and gifts shops mainly on the R C Dutt road, Fatehgunj and Raopura areas. Likewise, people living away from their hometowns could be seen catching trains and buses to reach their home for the festival.
Though Sunday night did not see much fire works, the fever caught on from dawn, besides pujas being performed.
However, children and youth could be seen bursting crackers in the middle of the roads and streets, despite prohibition. At the same time, many could be seen bursting crackers on open grounds, like near the Palace road to set off firecrackers in a big way.
