The Election Commission has asked the Digvijay Singh government to transfer two district collectors, who were found involved in committing irregularities in the preparation of voters’ lists.
According to sources, the Commission had written to the Madhya Pradesh government about transferring the collectors of Khargone and Shahdol after the MP High Court gave its opinion on it.
Earlier, the Commission had recommended ‘‘severe’’ action against five officers, who were found guilty of manipulating the voters lists.
Following complaints from the BJP, the Commission had conducted an inquiry into the preparation of voters’ list and discovered huge irregularities.
Since the CAT has dismissed petitions of two accused officers and the HC has also given a verdict clearing the Commission’s role as a punishing authority, the Commission has written to the state to transfer the two collectors.
Meanwhile, top Commission officials have pulled up district collectors of Chhattisgarh over the issue of preparation of voters’ lists in the state.
