DHARAMSALA, Nov 30: Himachal Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today expressed concern over the deteriorating social values and advised the youth to stay away from social evils and anti-national elements for positive growth of the country.
Speaking at the 51st Raising Day of NCC Directorate, Himachal Pradesh, here he said the responsibility to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the country purely rested on the youth. “Discipline is an essential component of life and it is appreciable that the motto of NCC is unity and discipline”, he said while lauding the efforts of the NCC organisation in channelising the energy of the youth in the right direction.
The Chief Minister said a sum of Rs 2 lakh had been sanctioned for strengthening various activities of NCC in the state. He announced a special funding of Rs 1 lakh for purchase of equipment for band display.
Dhumal gave away prizes to the outstanding performers in the NCC activities and sanctioned Rs 10,000 to the participants of cultural events.
Group commander of NCC Co. Kanwar Randhir Singh said Himachal Pradesh had 12 units of NCC having enrolement of 24,000 cadets.
. He said the NCC was a second line trained force and had been successful in instilling the patriotic feelings among the youth.
Himachal Transport and Tribal Development Minister Krishan Kapoor, State Minister for Technical Education Ravinder Ravi, vice chairman of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Rakesh Pathania, BJP MLA Sarveen Chaudhary and newly elected BJP legislator Dulo Ram (Baijanth) were also present on the occasion.
Later talking to media persons, the Chief Minister said the state would have major investment in power and tourism sectors in the years to come as they were potential areas for growth. He claimed that the BJP government had achieved extra-ordinarily in the past eight months of its rule in Hiamchal and it had been successful in restoring the faith of people in the Central Government by solving the lingering issues with the help of the Centre in a few months’ period.
He said the BJP had won the Baijnath by-election by a record margin because of its performance.
