Students at the Panjab University will now be able to pay their fees just with the click of the mouse. The university authorities have decided to introduce the system of making fees payment online. While the modalities of the proposal are being worked out, authorities are looking for a tie-up with banks to start the same. And once the proposal has been finalised, students seeking admission to the university can deposit their fees from anywhere. This can be paid online with the use of a debit or credit card. Students will also no longer have to stand in queues at the fee counters. They will be given a receipt after making the payment and a confirmation will also be sent through mail. A print out of the confirmation will be considered as the receipt. Talking to Newsline, PU Registrar S S Bari, said: “We are working on the proposal and are discussing it with different banks. We are seeking a tie-up with any bank. We will probably start this system from this year when students will submit their examination fees online. The entire system will be made online by the next year.” Fee payment was always an issue with students as they had to wait for hours at the counter to deposit the money. Earlier too, there were times when students had entered into heated arguments with clerks. The decision will also bring a major relief for outstation students who have to come for far-off places, just to make the payment. The proposal has also met the approval of students. Nitin Goyal, a student activist said: “The proposal is bound to meet approval from students. It is a welcome move as will facilitate students. The authorities should take no time in implementing the same.”
