SRINAGAR, August 8: For the first time, voices have raised demanding resignation of Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah for his allegedly ineffective governance. This demand was made during a recently held discussion on mass killings in Jammu in both the Houses of Parliament by members of Congress, Janata Dal, Shiromani Akali Dal and the All India Shiromani Akali Dal (Tara Singh) party.

Much to the chagrin of the ruling party, BJP chief Kushabhau Thakre also chose to attack the J&K government for its unsatisfactory performance at a time when the party was under attack from all quarters. In quick succession, VHP chief Vishnu Hari Dalmia made his displeasure known to the Home Minister, L K Advani for “grossly inefficient governance and gruesome killings in J&K”. Seething with anger, some NC leaders lambasted the BJP for making “foolish statements”.

A memorandum is also being prepared for the ouster by one of the parties to be submitted to the President.

The dilemma of the NC government is, however, evident as it has no logical explanation for the unusually high number of killings within a fortnight and a equally long sojourn of the CM, besides rampant corruption.

Red faced NC leaders are working overtime to find an excuse for all their failures. Statistics reveal that during Farooq’s 20 days long absence, militants virtually had a field day, as seen in Doda and Chamba. Equally shocking is throwing of hand grenade in crowded Lal Chowk area in Srinagar in broad day light which killed one girl and injured 26 others.
