Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala today demanded the dismissal of the Congress government in Punjab over its stance on the SYL issue. He also launched a scathing verbal assault on Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, calling it napunsak (transvestite) and accusing it of being ‘‘hand in glove’’ with Punjab.
Chautala also showed a hardening of stance when he said, ‘‘If pushed to the brink, Haryana may be forced to cancel the Yamuna accord for which Delhi may end up paying the price’’.
‘‘How will the country survive if a Central government is so blatantly involved with a state government in a conspiracy like this,’’ Chautala asked. He minced no words in accusing the Centre of actively conniving with Punjab over the issue.
‘‘Rather than asking Punjab to repeal the Punjab Termination of Agreements Bill, the Centre instead approached the Supreme Court again,’’ he said. He further alleged that Punjab could not have passed the bill ‘‘without the knowledge of Sonia Gandhi and the Congress top leadership’’.
