Vohra shocks Amitpal

January 28: Veteran K.J.Vohra of Chandigarh upset no 8 seed Amitpal Kohli of Mumbai 9-7, 10-9, 9-6 in the fifth DDA Open Squash Tournament.

Vohra played high risk unorthodox shots to upset Kohli’s rhythm and scraped through the first two games. In the third game there was tremendous pressure on Kohli and Vohra slowed down the pace further with drop shots to cause a major upset.

Nitin slams three goals

Rajput Club routed Super Stars Club 11-2 in the Delhi Hockey Association tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here on Wednesday. Satish Kumar struck the first goal in the seventh minute, while Himanshu scored the second and fifth in the ninth and 33rd minute. Other scorers were Raj Kumar (14th, 38th min), Nitin Gupta (16th, 42nd,59th min), Kumar Singh (36th min), Kuldip (52nd min), and Sandeep (55th min). In other matches, Khalsa Whites and Railway Board got walkovers against Bharat Electronics and Reserve Bank of India respectively.

Gopesh Mehra trophy

The Delhi Fencing and Archery Association, in memory of Late Gopesh Mehra, has resolved to start a rolling trophy in his memory. Gopesh Mehra, a veteran sports journalist, died here on Sunday following a heart attack. He was the Founder secretary general and Chairman of the technical committee of the Archery Association of India.

Three wicket win for South n South Zone defeated North Zone by three wickets in the 5th All India Oriental Insurance Cricket Tournament at the Shivaji College ground.In another match, East Zone defeated Central Zone by eight wickets at the Harbaksh Stadium.

North Zone: 107 in 31.1 overs (M.P.Sikka 35, Sandeep Mahajan 25, Sudesh Puthran 3 for 13m R. Srinivas 2 for 16, K.Srinivas 2 for 30); South Zone: 108 for 7 in 30.1 overs (Harish Puthran 23,Vidyanand 20, N.Trimurthy 14 n.o, V.Wilson 3 for 20, Dinesh Gupta 2 for 29); Sudesh Puthran (South Zone) was named the man of the match. Central Zone: 108 in 28.2 overs (Vijay Kumar 19, B.Hoanty 3 for 9, K.Karmarkar 3 for 30); East Zone: 109 for 2 in 22.2 overs (Ali Rashid 52 n.o, B.Mohanty 37 n.o).

Loreto beat CJM

Loreto Convent defeated Convent of Jesus and Mary 31-12 in the annual Mary Ward Inter-School Basketball Tournament. Priyanka Sethi and Jasmine Kaur with six baskets each were the main scorers for the winners while Anushka with two baskets was the leading scorer for CJM. In another match Carmel Convent, aided by a fine display by Richa Dua who scored 12 baskets, whipped G.D.Goenka 46-2. In the third match, CJM beat Vasant Valley 13-6.

Jagat Singh soars

Park Royal, powered by a fine knock of 92 by Jagat Singh, defeated Ashoka by 139 runs in the 9th Inter-Hotel Cricket Tournament at the Siri Fort ground. Jagat Singh’s knock contained nine boundaries and came off 86 balls. He wasnamed the man of the match. Park Hotel: 22 for 6 in 30 overs (Jagat Singh 92, Asheet Lamba 31);Ashoka: 83 in 23.2 overs (V.Kumar 2 for 11, Dhruv Tathore 3 for 15).

Gajendra hits century

Gajendra Singh scored 101 runs to help Three Star Coaching Centre beat East Colts Sports Club in a pool D match in the the first Hari Singh Tyagi TYCA League at the Mohan Meakins ground. Three Star Coaching Centre: 254 in 40 overs (Gajendra Singh 101, Nishant Chaudhary 55, Javed 2 for 46, Rahul 2 for 40); East Colts Sports Club: 224 in 36.1 overs (Sanjay 57, Dinesh 41, Maujpal 35, Yashpal Singh 27, Manoj 2 for 45, Yashpal 3 for 47).

Hansraj beat Sarvodaya

Hansraj College thrashed Sarvodaya Vidyalaya 19-1 in the 22nd Delhi State Senior Softball Championship at St Stephen’s College. In other men’s matches, JSA Club bt SBPS Palam 13-5, Youth Club bt Hans Raj College 14-2, and IGIPESS bt GBSS Vijay Enclave 23-7. Women’s : Miranda House bt Queen Mary 14-4, GGSSS School bt Miranda House 10-9.
