NEW DELHI, January 29: The formidable DAV Chandigarh team, after a 11th minute reverse, regrouped and raced away to a 6-1 win against CRZ Sonepat in their final Group B Super League match in the Limca Soccer tournament at Modern School on Thursday. Other group toppers who booked a semi-final berth are Moti Lal Sports School, Rai, Ved School, Hissar, and Saini School, Rewari.

Though the Sonepat side started on a very solid note and cracked the DAV defence early on when Ram Chander shot in off an intelligent pass from Anil on the left flank, they crumbled under the late DAV onslaught. Medio Dalbir was unlucky when his cracking long ranger bounced off the crossbar a little later.

Meanwhile, DAV warmed up to the challenge and sounded the first comeback signal in the 16th minute when Navdeep Singh lunged forward near the goalline to connect a Navtej Singh pass from the right. The third goal a took longer, but after Danil Singh’s grounder rolled comfortably into the net to make it 2-1, it was a free run for theChandigarh side in the second half.

While Harish netted the fourth goal in the 46th minute and the sixth in the 53rd, Dinesh scored in the 48th and 57th minute, the last one coming off a double rebound.

Later, Saini School, Rewari after a goalless first half, stepped on the gas in their 4-0 second half goal hunt against Children’s Academy, Chandigarh.

Dharmender, Prashant, Ravinder and Kamal filled up the scoresheet. In the morning session at the Nehru Stadium ground, M L Sports School, Rai walloped Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Jaipur 6-0 in Group A. Deepak Malik had a great outing smacking four of those six goals, while Sanjeev Kaushik chipped in with two. In Group C, St Aloysis, Jabalpur and Ved School, Hissar played a goalless draw, but Ved School made it to the semis on the basis better goal difference.
