
The condition of Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi is critical and he has been put on the life support system, where he continues to be under observation. Dasmunsi, 62, suffered a cardiac arrest at around 11 pm on Sunday night and was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences here.
8220;Dasmunsi8217;s condition is critical and he is under strict observation,8221; Union Health Minister Ramadoss said after visiting Dasmunsi at AIIMS.
The minister was taken to the hospital with severe breathlessness and lung congestion. 8220;He had a complete left ventricular failure of the heart when he was admitted,8221; AIIMS Spokesperson Y K Gupta said.
Doctors attending on him said his vital organs were functioning normally but his condition was critical. The minister was first taken to the casualty wing. After his condition stabilised, he was shifted to the Coronary Care Unit CCU. A multi-discipline team of doctors, led by cardiologist Dr Rakesh Yadav, has been treating Dasmunsi.
The Health Minister said that the doctors informed him that when Dasmunsi was brought to the hospital, no pulse could be felt at the time. But, later his pulse was normalised.
8220;He has shown improvement, but his condition is still critical. He will be kept under observation for the next 48 hours,8221; said D K Sharma, Medical Superindent AIIMS.
Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Congress President Sonia Gandhi have visited the minister.
Dasmunsi had complained of chest pain and breathlessness in Malda in West Bengal on July 6 while attending a party meeting there. He was brought to Malda circuit house where an ECG and blood test were conducted. When he felt better he left for Kaliachowk where he was supposed to attend another meeting.
On his way, Dasmunsi again fell sick and he was admitted to a private nursing home in Raigunj. Later he was taken to Purnea in Bihar and from there brought to Kolkata by a BSF helicopter.
He was treated for acute coronary syndrome in a private hospital in Kolkata and on July 7 he had undergone primary angioplasty. He was discharged from the hospital on July 17.
