Maulana Margoobur Rehman, rector of Darul Uloom, termed the attack as ‘‘terrorism against humanity’’.

He alleged that Americans and Jews are out to destroy Muslims around the world. The statement said that the United Nations has been only acting as a hub of Israeli interests.

Meanwhile, also in Dehra Dun to celebrate the Vajpayee government’s completion of five years, I&B Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the US-led attack on Iraq was not justifiable. He termed the death and destruction in Iraq as unfortunate, adding that there was a difference in the situations between the Gulf War in 1991 and now.

Asked about the steps taken by his Ministry to curb vulgarity on television, Prasad said he was for self-regulation by the concerned parties. ‘‘Censors are required but it should not kill creativity,’’ he added. He said although certain films are classified for adult viewing, songs of the film are shown on television channels.
