.

Jagmohan Dalmiya the former International Cricket Council (ICC) will attend the ICC’s executive committee meeting in a fortnight in Dubai, and he will propose to the ICC to allow the Indian sub-continent to host the World Cup in 2011. This is a position that the BCCI has been keeping, and Dalmiya wants to make it formal at the ICC forum.

“The next World Cup is scheduled for 2007 in the West Indies and the following one is likely to be hosted by Australia. This means, we get our chance to host only in 2015. I will propose to the ICC that since much of the cricketing revenue is generated from the sub-continent, we should host the World Cup in 2011, not Australia,” the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman confirmed today.

Dalmiya argued that instead of hosting the World Cup every fifth time, the sub-continent should be allowed to host it every third time.

“The last time we organised it was in 1996. Then the World Cup travelled to England, South Africa, it will be the West Indies next and then Australia, as per the current schedule. Why should we allow that to happen?”

Dalmiya also said that he would argue on the revenue pie for the forthcoming Champions Trophy. “This tournament will be organised fully by the BCCI. So, half the proceedings from this tournament should ideally go the BCCI’s coffers.” Dalmiya said.
