The Punjab police today tightened the noose around singer Daler Mehndi by conducting searches at his premises in Delhi in connection with a racket of sending people out of the country.

Claiming they had ‘‘a fool-proof case’’ against Daler, the police team from Patiala said they were looking for the singer and, once traced, he would be taken into custody.

‘‘Lookout circulars were issued again this morning against Daler Mehndi. An alert has been sounded at all airports in case he tries to flee the country,’’ said Param Raj Singh, SSP, Patiala Police.

A police team led by SP Bhupinderjeet Singh Virk today raided Daler’s farmhouse in Nihal Vihar and an office in Lado Sarai. The team reached the farmhouse around 12.30 pm and were there for nearly 30 minutes. ‘‘No family member was present in the house. A domestic help and a lawyer were there. They, however, said they had no idea where Daler and other family members were,’’ said Inspector Deedar Singh.

The team then headed for Daler’s office in Lado Sarai. ‘‘There we were told that the office was locked for the last five days.’’ The team, which spent three days in Delhi, left for Patiala later this evening. In all, seven searches were made by the team.

SSP Param Raj Singh said: ‘‘We have a solid case against Mehndi and will be arresting him. His entire family is missing. There’s a lot of evidence against him.’’ The police, he said, were also looking for four others: Gurdyal alias Mama, Tajinder Singh Laddi, Harchand Singh and Balwinder Kaur.

‘‘Gurdyal is Shamsher’s key associate. He escaped when the police raided the house and arrested Shamsher,’’ Param Raj said. The four, he said, had in their possession 150 passports. ‘‘We found photocopies of 24 passports during a raid last night,’’ the SSP said.
