
More donations for martyrs
ROOPNAGAR: District saving officers across the state have resolved to donate Rs 1,000 each, for the welfare of the families of the soldiers who have died in Kargil. According to the Punjab District Saving Officers Association general secretary, Gulshan Kumar Sajgotra, the money raised for the “Kargil cause” will be contributed to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. In all, there are 15 district saving officers posted in the state. The Association has also requested about 17,000 small saving agents to make similar contributions as a tribute to the martyrs.
50th Van Mahotsava celebrated
CHANDIGARH: The 50th Van Mahotsav was celebrated at Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant in Roopnagar on Wednesday. S.K. Tuteja, Chairman PSEB, inaugurated the function by planting a sapling. K.S. Dhillon, member, Generation and Transmission, PSEB, presided over the function. It was intimated on the occasion that about 1 lakh trees had already been planted in the Thermal Plant, consisting of 2,000 different varieties. A cultural programme was also organised by children.
Teachers condemn attack on leader
AMBALA: School teachers in the district expressed resentment over the attack on their leader, Organising Secretary, Dharam Pal Kalia. A press release issued by district president of Haryana Government Teachers Union, Ambala district unit, K.K. Joshi, criticised the incident and urged the administration to apprehend the persons behind the attack.
SBP holds meet on farmers
PATIALA: State Bank of Patiala, Nabha branch, organised a farmers meet at Bhorey village yesterday. The meet aimed at informing and educating the farmers about various loan and deposit schemes available in the bank for the benefit of farmers. Assistant general manager H.S. Sehgal presided over the meet. A number of progressive farmers from the neighbouring villages – Lopoey, Bishanpur, Naraingarh, Kameli Birwal and Babberpur – also participated. Speaking on the occasion, Sehgal urged the farmers to make full use of various loan/deposit schemes introduced by the bank. He also pressed the need for timely repayment of loan installments.
Punjabi varsity postgraduate results out
PATIALA: Punjabi University has declared the results of examinations conducted by it in April/May 99. These include MA (English) Part-II, MA Defence Studies Part-II, MA (Urdu) Part-II, MA Dance Part-II, MA Music Part-I, MA Fine Arts Part-I, MA Urdu Part-II, MA Music Part-I, MA Fine Arts Part-I, MA Urdu Part-I, MA Linguistics Part-I, MSc Human Biology Part-II, MSc Biotechnology Part-I, MSc Sports Science Part-I, MSc Microbial and Food technology Part-I, BSc Home Science Part-III and BSc Agriculture Part-IV. This was stated in a press note issued by the university here today.
