MUMBAI, September 15: The Dadar Merchants’ Association will observe a token bandh on September 18 to protest against the increasing encroachment of hawkers in the area.
The merchants will hold a morcha to Shivaji Park police station, G-North ward municipal office and Mayor’s bungalow. Association president Kantilal Nissar warned that if the hawkers’ nuisance is not curbed even after the protest, the merchants will resort to a rasta roko and indefinite bandh. The association stated that hawkers in this area have crossed the 9,000 mark. It is alleged that the BMC removed hawkers in other suburbs like Andheri, Goregaon, Santacruz and Churchgate, but no action was taken in Dadar.
