PUNE, April 19: A 45-year-old woman was murdered while six persons were injured when dacoits struck at the residences of two farm labourers near Valhekarwadi, Chinchwadgaon, last night and took away gold ornaments worth Rs 6400.

This is the second dacoity in as many days and the police is investigating whether the same gang was involved in both the incidents. The dacoity took place around 11.30 pm at Kalbagvasti at the residences of Mohan Kisan Shinde and his neighbour Dnyandev Krishna Sutar. They were staying in a hut having a separation and worked as labourers in the farm owned by S S Kalbag.

Mohan Shinde (50) lost his wife Satyabhama (45), while his son Parmeshwar (15) and daughter Nanibai (25) were injured, after the dacoits armed with axes, iron rods and sticks beat the inmates of the house. Mohan Shinde who lodged a complaint with the police was sleeping outside the house to guard the large stock of wheat.

The doors were open when the dacoits entered the house. The dacoits took away a gold chain from Shinde’s wife Satyabhama after severely thrashing her. The dacoits also attacked Shinde’s daughter Nanibai, and son Parmeshwar. The dacoits beat Dnyandev Sutar, his wife Sindhutai (40) and his sons Anil (30) and Tukaram (21).

Shinde was awakened by the screams of the family. Anil Sutar who himself was injured came running out of the house and called for help. There were no lights in the entire farm area. Residents from the nearby Ahire vasti rushed for help to take the victims to the Yeshwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital.

The police was also immediately informed about the incident. Satyabhama who had received head injuries was pronounced dead even before any treatment could be administered on her. Dnyandev Sutar and his wife Sindhutai were later shifted to Sassoon hospital for treatment.

According to the victims, the dacoits were in the age group of 20 to 25 years and wore black half pants and black banians. Deputy Commissioner of police (Crime) Ramarao Pawar, Deputy commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad Zone Uddhav Kamble, assistant commissioner of police C H Wakde, Nigdi police inspector Ashok Gaikwad visited the site. A massive manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits.
