Calcutta, May 3: The Calcutta Stock Exchange (CSE) on Monday launched the AWACS (advance warning and control system) on-line surveillance package developed by Secunderabad-based SDG Software Technologies. It meets all the parameters mandated by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for the stockwatch system.

Inaugurating the package, LK Singhvi, senior executive director of SEBI, said this would send the right signals to the investors and market players by ensuring greater transparency and market safety. "Technology works in an impartial manner and it should help the authorities in detecting and taking effective and timely action against aberrations," he added.

He said that various stock exchanges were at various stages of implementation of stockwatch system and CSE was the only exchange after NSE to implement the system.

The stockwatch system will provide an interface with the trading engine of the exchange and have several features like real-time margining, daily member and scrip-specificinformation, databases of issuers, securities and members and a full-fledged audit trail mechanism, sources pointed out.

The president of the exchange, Kamal Parekh, said the stock exchange would have to develop systems to make the market more transparent and investor-friendly. He said the exchange would have to work as a self-regulatory organisation and fulfill the objective of investor protection.
