Jewellery looted
A Mazgaon jewellery shop was looted of gold worth Rs 2,70,575 and Rs 37,900 in cash on Monday. According to the police, Mohan Shamrao Jadav was watching television at his shop No 54/56 Chaushi Bhimji Marg, Mazgaon, around 9.30 am when four armed men entered and threatened him. The four-member-gang then robbed the shop and fled locking the door from behind. The Byculla police has registered a case of armed dacoity.
Burglary
Burglars, using duplicate set of keys, broke into a house and escaped with jewellery and cash worth Rs 2,25,000 at King’s Circle on Monday. The police said, the incident took place when Nalini Govindji Zakaria, a housewife, left her Bina Kunj apartment for Yogeshram Gujarati Club in the area at 3 pm. When she returned around 5.15 in the evening, a gold ring was found lying near the cupboard door, police added. Realising something was amiss, Nalini opened the cupboard to find that her gold, diamond and cash missing. The Matunga police are looking out for the culprits.
Murder
Argument between two friends led to a murder at Bandra on Tuesday morning. According to the police, Rakesh Dilip Choudhury (28) and Ramnarayan Sahdev Singh (40) were friends. On Monday night they had liquor together at Topsy Beer Bar and was engaged in a conversation. During the course of the conversation, Singh abused Choudhury’s boss Rizvi, with whom he was employed. This led to a violent argument, said the police. The enraged Singh then stabbed Choudhury, who died due to the injury. Singh has been arrested and the police have recovered the weapon used in the crime.
Arrested
Member of the legislative assembly (Samajwadi Party), Nawab Malik and former corporator, Hamida Mistry along with 16 others were arrested by the Malwani police on Tuesday for rioting. They were protesting against the demolition at Babrekar Nagar, Malad which snowballed into stone-pelting injuring nine policemen. The protesters were later released on bail.
