CPI(M) leader arrested for firing at TMC MLA

MLA Tapan escaped unhurt but party worker Sajal Ghosh died on the spot.

Trinamool Congress MLA Tapan Chattopadhyay escaped unhurt but a party worker was killed when unidentified people fired at the MLA outside Pratapnagar hospital in the border of Burdwan and Nadia districts,police said on Tuesday.

Chattopadhyay,the MLA of Purbasthali Uttar seat in Burdwan district accompanied by party workers including Sajal Ghosh had gone to Pratapnagar hospital last night to meet injured Trinamool Chhatra Parishad members.

As they were coming out,gunmen fired at them,leaving Ghosh dead,SP Humayun Kabir said.

SP said six persons including CPI(M) leader Pradip Saha have been arrested in this connection.

Saha had unsuccessfully contested against Chattopadhyay from the Purbasthali Uttar seat in the last Assembly election.
