
MUMBAI, July 20: Four unidentified persons robbed a goldsmith of ornaments and cash valued at Rs 6.80 lakh near the Hindmata Cinema at Parel on Saturday night.
According to the Bhoiwada police, the foursome barged into the shop of Subhash Anant Shirodkar (49) armed with choppers and revolvers and decamped with gold and silver ornaments valued at Rs 6.75 lakh and Rs 5000 respectively. The Bhoiwada police have not made any arrests in the case so far.
Borivli theft
In another incident, a goldsmith at Borivli was robbed of valuables worth Rs 18.56 lakh by four unidentified persons on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Borivli police, Naresh Loni, along with his brother Chetan and some workers was at the workshop, when four persons who were armed with revolvers and choppers, suddenly barged inside the workshop. The resistance offered by Loni and others resulted in injuries to Chetan as the accused persons slashed him with a chopper. The accused then decamped with the booty. No arrests have been made by the Borivli police so far.
Two arrested
The Dongri police arrested two transporters for the use of fake documents and number plates.
The duo, Anil Ramji Gawande (27), a driver, and Ravindersingh Jarnelsingh Bal (35), were arrested under Sections 465, 468, 471 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The modus operandi used by the two was to supply motor trucks on a hire basis to transporters with fake number plates and documents.They further misappropriated the loaded goods into the trucks.
According to the information available with the Dongri police, it has been revealed that a number of cases with the same modus operandi have been registered at some other police stations in Mumbai.
Some police stations in the neighbouring districts of Raigad and Ratnagiri have also registered similar cases.
